OVERLANDING IN THE CHILEAN-BOLIVIAN HIGHLANDS AND THE UYUNI SALT FLATS
11 days - 10 nights
Travelling in this remote and fascinating region of the world is one of the most extreme experiences that you can have. The trip starts at the Hotel de Larache in San Pedro (Explora Atacama) that will allow you to adapt to the altitude and the climate. After 4 days we climb to 4,000 metres above sea level entering Bolivia through the Cajon Pass – we will explore the area in bus and on foot – visiting the most breathtaking sites. Each night we will stay in a different Explora Camp. We then travel across the Uyuni salt flats, one of the largest and certainly the highest salt flat in the world. After five days in Bolivia we return to Chile to the city of Iquique. The Atacama Desert and the oasis town of San Pedro are truly the last frontier – and it is amazing that man has managed to carve out a life in this arid terrain. The highlands that surround the desert give no hope of survival or of being able to put down roots.
